What We Can Expect From The IPhone 5 UK

The release of the iPhone 5 UK has been eagerly anticipated for at least a year now.

The earliest rumoured date was January 2011, but most predictions are for summer 2011, some as late as September. Apple’s traditional launch time is June-July, and this seems the most likely estimate.

The details about the new release seem to be leaking bit by bit, which might be a deliberate ploy to keep people’s excitement up and, of course, to keep Apple ahead of the competition.

So what can customers look forward to in the new iPhone 5 UK? Features that seem fairly certain include a dual-core or multi-core processor (1.5 GHz) with Android operating system.

The phone should work on both 3G and 4G technology, allowing uninterrupted access to high speed internet. There should also be video chat on 3G and 4G networks, hitherto only possible with WiFi. It is also expected to have improved battery life with up to 14 hours talk time on 3G and seven hours on 4G.

  • Big Improvements?

Big improvements on the iPhone 4 should be the 64 GB memory, rather than 16, and possibly antenna coating to deal with the iPhone 4 antenna problems. The phone is expected to have a shiny glass rear panel, and a 4-inch display with a screen that is completely scratch proof. It is hoped that this may be a 3D touch screen

We can certainly expect multitasking with iPhone 5 one thing that is getting people excited is the prospect of the integrated 8 mega pixel camera, plus revolutionary face recognition technology and high video resolution capability.

One very alluring possibility is radio frequency identification capability or Near Field Communication. This would mean you could use the phone as a credit card, and instead of waiting in a checkout queue you could pay for the item by passing the phone over the bar code.

  • Price?

No actual price has been announced, but the expectation is that there will be very little change from the iPhone 4 price. One little-known UK reseller is said to have set up a partnership with O2 to offer what it claims to be the UK’s first iPhone 5 pay-monthly contract, at £40 per month excluding VAT.

  • Swap an iPhone 4 for an iPhone 5?

Those who sign up will apparently get an iPhone 4 which they can then swap for the iPhone 5 when it becomes available.

Whatever the truth about the price, there will, no doubt be a big rush for the iPhone 5 UK when it finally does appear. It may be that those who pre-order will get the best deals. This cannot be guaranteed but at least they will have the kudos of being one of the first to own this iconic brand.
